Kayaking Workshop for Kids
Fun and exciting outdoor activities that promote a physical and mental state of wellbeing are important for children of all ages, who have a lot of energy to expend. Outdoor activities are also a great way to get your kids to put their mobile devices down, stop playing their video games, and turn the TV off for a while. That’s why Holiday Academy offers exhilarating kayaking for kids to get out there, enjoy each other’s company, learn something new, and have a blast all at the same time.
Kayaking is one of the best and most fun ways to get children of all ages into the great outdoors to have some fun while doing something a little bit different for a change. And they can do it all while taking in the big blue sky above them and the calm water beneath them. Plus, kayaking is a great activity for kids who want to get active and get some exercise without feeling like they are working out.
Physical activity, such as kayaking, is vitally important to the growth and development of kids of every age. We take kids out in groups so that they can feel comfortable and confident, and they learn under the guidance of skilled instructors who put safety first while teaching your child about all of the wonderful things that Mother Nature has to offer.
Canoeing/Kayaking activities and excursions are available for the 8+ age group through a local partnership with Pirate Castle, which is a Camden canal-side community project/youth club. You need to book with them and book the wrap-around hours with us. They get booked up very, very quickly once they open their booking so best to get in early to avoid disappointment! We will walk the children there and drop them off at 10.30 am, picking them up at 3.30 pm so that you don’t have to brave the queue.
We love offering this exhilarating yet relaxing outdoor activity to the older age group. The children join with those already at the Pirate Castle scheme and have so much fun in the water! Their age group is up to 16 years old so much more of a youth experience. You can take it as seriously as you like, and do your kayaking certificates, starting with capsizing and spray deck test. It really is unforgettable, and many of the children who participate absolutely can’t wait to come back and do it all over again.
Also, when your kids need a rest from all of that kayaking and canoeing on the water, they can opt to participate in other fun activities, such as fishing trips, canal boat trips, and climbing wall trips.
Pirate Castle even offers residential courses away, along with day trips out to the Thames. It’s also possible for children to complete all of their kayaking qualifications, and they can take it as seriously as they wish or just enjoy the social side of the kayaking workshop for kids.
What did you do during the school holidays?
The kids who come to Holiday Academy can list music, street dance, drama, sport and now KAYAKING on their list of favourite holiday moments! If you’re looking for a kayaking holiday for kids, but you don’t want to don a life jacket yourself, then why not book the kids in with us? This is an activity at Holiday Academy for children aged 8 and over, who can swim.
More than just a kayaking holiday for children
Because we are so close to the kayaking venue, Pirate Castle (5 mins walk away), we have partnered up to offer parents the wrap-around care for the kayaking/canal boating programme (10.30am-3.30pm) during the school holidays. If you need to drop off your children earlier than when kayaking normally begins, we will provide wrap-around care which includes the 5 hours of instructed kayaking on the canal. At 3.30pm after the water they’ll enjoy relaxed activity back at Holiday Academy, where there’s always a fun activity to join in with.
So for Kayaking at Holiday Academy, you can drop off (and pick up) at Cavendish school, and we’ll walk them over, make sure they have all their things, and queue up for entrance to Pirate Castle. We will pick them up when they finish, make sure they are warm and happy and bring them back to Holiday Academy day-camp at Cavendish school.
If you’re looking for a kayaking holiday for children then we can provide that – you can book as many kayaking days as you’d like, and the children can either just have fun on the water or go on to complete their kayaking certifications. We are only allocated 5 places per day so it will be the first programme to be booked up, so jump in quickly with the dates you need!
But if you’d like a varied programme for your children’s summer holidays, then talk to us about the full Holiday Academy timetable: ranging from forest school to the day-camp – art, music, drama, sport etc – our sessions and workshops are exciting and diverse.
We like to include kayaking days in our general programme because it’s a wonderful local community project (which is why it is cheap) and the children always love it. The next day, the same children might be working on a huge mural in art or learning to use their voices; we believe that holidays should be packed full of fun!
